The Child and Youth Care Worker programme prepares learners to support the physical, emotional, social and developmental needs of children and young people. Learners are introduced to child and youth development, developmental approaches, behaviour support, child protection, communication and the professional responsibilities involved in providing care and support. Learners develop practical capabilities in observing and responding to behaviour, providing appropriate care, supporting developmental goals and participating in programmes and activities designed to address the needs of children and youth. The programme also develops the skills required to create supportive environments and promote the safety, wellbeing and rights of children and young people. The programme is suitable for individuals who wish to pursue a career supporting children and youth in care, educational, community and social service environments
Entry requirements are confirmed per programme. Applicants may be asked for prior learning records, school reports, workplace experience, or an interview depending on the course.
